The Sommet Center can resemble a night at the mortuary when lesser teams come to town. But not when the Detroit Red Wings show up. That's when it turns into a Turkish prison, only with comfortable seating and $6 beers. (Trust us; it's a good thing.) Saturday night features the NHL's best franchise versus our hometown heroes, who are desperately clawing for a playoff spot. For the die-hard, it's a collision of Central Division rivals who war with the zeal of the recently divorced. For the lay fan, its a chance to see hockey as it was meant to be--loud, fast and recklessly physical. And for the casually interested, it's a perfect time to people-watch and join the ceremonial taunting of legendary Detroit defenseman Chris Chelios. (Repeat after me: "Chelios is a sissy!") Consumer tip: To beat the devil Ticketmaster, check with the friendly scalpers on 5th Avenue, who generally offer fine seats at discounted prices.
