Polica w/Canon Blue

When: Fri., Sept. 28, 9 p.m. 2012
Price: $12-$14
Sailing atop a wave of brisk success, Minneapolis electronic outfit Poliça returns to Nashville for a headlining spot at The High Watt. Since the well-received release of Give You the Ghost back in February, the group has garnered favor from indie music’s nastiest critics, accomplishing more in eight months than most of 2012’s shitty electronic bands will in their entire careers. Their sound is a profusion of contrasts stunningly combined to join heartbreak with joy, tenderness with power, and moodiness with propulsion. Channy Leaneagh’s beguiling vocals are everything we demand from a waifish indie chanteuse, and when paired with Ryan Olson’s decade of production experience, the result is sublime. Keep an ear on the singable menace lurking behind “Amongster” and “Wandering Star.” Nashville’s Daniel James will open with his gorgeous folktronica as Canon Blue, and maybe 2012’s hype of trendy electronica will finally make sense — or at least seem less annoying.
