For its National Poetry Month installment, East Nashville’s premier dive-bar live verse series is bringing an MFA student from the West Side, a poet from out West and a jazz combo from way out there. First on that roster would be Zachary Greenberg, listed on the Poetry Sucks! flier as hailing from “Velvetbilt University-derground,” where he’s working on his creative writing degree and edits the Nashville Review. Brian Barker teaches at University of Colorado Denver, where he co-edits Copper Nickel, and his book The Black Ocean won the 2011 Crab Orchard Open Competition. And providing the skronky sonic backdrop for the evening is the Tim Daisy/Ken Vandermark Duo, whose jitter-funk free jazz travels by way of Chicago to destinations unknown. Poetry Sucks! regulars and newcomers alike should note the earlier than usual start time — this will likely be a standing-room-only affair.
