If you’ve been to either of the first two installments of the dive-bar salon known as Poetry Sucks! A Night of Poetry, Music and All Sorts of Bad Language (PSANOPMAASOBL for short), you know the deal: Good writers read, good musicians play, and good people hang out and have a good time. The January edition features the heftiest roster to date, made up of all East Nashville residents. Among them: fiction writer and MTSU writing instructor John Minichillo, whose novel The Snow Whale made the Hey Small Press! Best of 2011 list, among others; Salem Elkhatib, best known to many East siders as owner of Italia Pizza, but also a political activist and on this night, a reader of classic Egyptian poetry; Ben Swank, Third Man co-founder, hater of life and occasional Nashville Cream columnist; William Tyler, the thinking man’s guitar shredder; Todd Dills, editor of The2ndHand zine; and Deborah Collins, bartender, poet and New Jack Swing afficionado.
