Plowhaus Gallery continues to pioneer new efforts to ignite the visual art scene on the East Side, and its latest scheme is its most ambitious since the space reopened in the Lockeland Springs neighborhood in September. Third Thursdays at The Building are exactly what they sound like: creative gatherings that occur on the third Thursday of every month at the East Nashville venue The Building. Although the once-a-month schedule might put some in mind of the First Saturday Art Crawl, Third Thursdays are better thought of as a one-stop event that includes displays of work by featured visual artists during a night of musical performances. In the long run, I could see this scene evolving into a kind of variety show that might even include comedy, fashion and film. It might be something like an East Nashville version of the RAW Nashville scene at the Mercy Lounge, but with that hand-painted thrift-store taqueria vibe you find in East Nashville. Tonight’s visual artists are Michael ClenDening and Johnny Lee Park. The jams will be provided by Reckless Johnny Wales and Moonshine Annie, Dave Gibson and Daisy Dern. The Building is located at 1008C Woodland Street, next door to Drifters. Tickets are available at The Groove.
