You know what we hate? When people name their night something like “Super-fly Ballin’ Champagne Room Ultra-Playaz Night” — and the event is being held at Johnny Podunk's Toothless Barbecue & General Store in Buttknuckle County. Sorry dudes, but a little truth-in-advertising goes a long way in our minds. Which is why we immediately perked up when we found out about Pay Dues Thursday at Cafe Coco. Not only is it great to see hip-hop return to the back room at Coco — it was an incubator for some of the best hip-hop in town before its hiatus — but it's also refreshing to hear about acts who are willing to admit they're not “on top of the game.” (Seriously, the next freshman MC that tells us they're “on top of the game” is getting a swirly.) Last Horseman, KABY and up-and-coming turntable terrorist Ugly Lovely share the stage.
