Parquet Courts w/Quailbones

When: Thu., June 5, 7 p.m. 2014
Price: $7
Has it really been nine months since the last public rock ’n’ roll gig at Third Man’s esteemed Blue Room, when Mudhoney sludged their way through a righteous set of proto-grunge superfuzz? (True, Jack White’s “World’s Fastest Record” performance recently tore up his own backyard, but a 7 a.m. show isn’t exactly my idea of a party.) But breaking the dry spell with Parquet Courts? Now there’s a party we can all get down with. Hot on the heels of Sunbathing Animal, Parquet Courts’ follow-up to their idiosyncratic art-punk debut Light Up Gold, the Courts take on the Blue Room with the off-kilter swagger of Goner Records as filtered through Brooklyn warehouses. On Sunbathing Animal, Parquet Courts slam together post-punk and blues grooves like a toddler playing with G.I. Joes, leaving a tangle of distorted guitars in their wake. Which is perfect for the sort of venue that features a mounted elephant head, right? LANCE CONZETT
