Pacha Mamas make "Healing & Easy Listening" Music

Is it music? Improvised storytelling? Performance art? Spiritual inspiration? Only the Pacha Mamas know for sure, but this trio of ladies has been appearing regularly at community and church events, and they’ve finally put out a CD, Pacha Mamas!, which strives to capture the feel of their live performances, which include plenty of movement, dance and audience interaction. Most of the diverse musical material is original, with percussion-driven and a cappella numbers as common as those featuring piano or guitar. The vocals are harmony-heavy--there's a hint of Manhattan Transfer here--and the lyrical themes are upbeat and empowering. Two of the Mamas--Marquetta Dupree and Angela Holley--are products of the community-outreach InterPlay Leadership program; the third, Vivian Slade, is a voice coach and vocalist who sings in many styles.
