For the past few years, Old Crow Medicine Show has been one of many bands slowly changing the definition of musical “revivalism” from a pejorative used by snobbish know-it-all music critics to a more musically spiritual meaning — focused on bringing the gospel of hillbilly music to the unconverted. And now, to celebrate the release of their new album
Carry Me Back, they’re staging their own twist on the Midnight Jamboree concept pioneered by Ernest Tubb. The special in-store midnight show and meet-and-greet is open to anyone who preorders the album from Grimey’s (on LP, CD or cassette — that last format may be taking “revivalism” a little too far in the opinion of this writer). Admission is limited. Call Grimey’s at 254-4801 or visit their website (grimeys.com) for more information.
