Oh No! Oh My!

There's an innocent glee to the jangly indie pop of this Austin quartet that's reinforced by the rich backing harmonies--and songs referencing Star Wars in their opening line ("Oh Be One"). Though their eponymous 2006 debut leaned twee-ward, they broadened their scope on last year's Between the Devil and the Sea EP, jumping the orchestral rock bandwagon (Sufjan Stevens, Decemberists) thanks to the original trio's multi-instrumental talents and the addition of keyboardist Tim Regan. And the onetime Nashville residents still offer hooks too winning to resist, highlighted by the track, "Our Mouths Were Wet," which alternates swooning psych pop verse sections worthy of the Flaming Lips and a bubbly, fluttering sing-song chorus like something out of an old Doris Day comedy.
