Nuclear Family

For a semi-charmed, chamber-pop outfit cherry-picked for major-label status after their '06 debut The Dust of Retreat, this Indianapolis octet have proved to be a more confrontational lot than their bittersweet sound would suggest. After settling in for a 25-song recording session with Epic, Margot and company were forced to crack executive skulls when a sharp dispute arose over the track list for their much-awaited follow-up. Disgruntled, the band released two versions, Animal! (their own preference relegated to vinyl and digital-only release) and Not Animal! (Epic's hard-copy print). Even so, the squabble may have scored in the band's favor as both forms have shared critical favor, along with a slew of valuable "damn the industry" press. Either way, with only two albums under their belt, Margot has quite a set list to sort through.
