Nosaj Thing at Exit/In

The nom de plume for L.A. producer Jason Chung, Nosaj Thing’s debut full-length Drift straddles several of electronic music’s many, many fences. Released earlier this year, the record is just as appropriate in a sweaty dance club as it is in a bong-ripper’s dorm room. Tipping its hat to hip-hop and glitchy IDM while allowing the influence of other sundry laptop nerderies to seep in, Drift occupies a space somewhere between foreground and background. And that’s what makes the record a success: subtle complexity that isn’t overwhelming, but is thick enough to dig in.
