No Pomo w/Sparkling Wide Pressure, Chris Murray & more

When: Sat., Oct. 13, 9 p.m. 2012
Tonight’s show is further proof that once and future noise/experimental hub Betty’s is returning to its halcyon days as an unlikely hotbed of weirdo music. Warped and seething with tape hiss like an old VHS copy of Videodrome or Tron, No Pomo — the project of Boston’s Sam White — recycles booming bass lines and minimalist beats under distorted keyboards and abstract alien sounds. Also on the bill is local experimentalist Frank Baugh’s project, Sparkling Wide Pressure. Pitchfork recently described his “Looking To Remember” as “distinctly organic, cobbled together from what sounds like a distant waterfall, a clumsy guitar chime and a glittering whine that is ghostly.” The review goes on loquaciously from there, but suffice it to say that Sparkling Wide is indeed full of ghostly, meandering sounds. Rounding out the bill will be more peculiar sounds from Terror’ish and SAURuS.
