Night of 1000 Lights

For every musician who tosses a TV set into a swimming pool, there are 1,000 more quietly (or loudly) working to amp up their communities through volunteer work, outreach programs or other services. Those efforts go citywide tonight in memory of 16-year-old Julian Fouce, who died in 2005 after a heroic fight against leukemia. To honor the young guitarist’s memory, his parents established the Julian T. Fouce Music Therapy Fund to support the music therapy program at the Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. More than 35 venues across the city are participating tonight and tomorrow night in various capacities for the program, and proceeds from the Family Wash and The 5 Spot tonight are going directly to the Fouce Fund. The Family Wash lineup includes two of Music City’s finest songwriters, Dave Olney and Tommy Womack, joining Melissa Mathes and The Levees; The 5 Spot features Leticia Wolf, Taylor Bates, Don Gallardo & How Far West, Jacob Jones and event organizer Matt Urmy. Several of those performers will also be playing for donations with Jonathan Sexton & the Big Love Choir during tomorrow’s First Saturday art crawl downtown in the Arcade.
