In it to win it

Fayetteville's Dennis Perry says WKRN-Channel 2 sports guy John Dwyer may have cost him $990,000 by handing him an envelope. Perry, a 57-year-old disabled veteran, was one of three contestants eligible to win big bucks on a televised lottery drawing June 26. His lawsuit, filed this week, claims Dwyer violated the game's rules by choosing an envelope for Perry rather than letting Perry choose his own. From the start, it's clear our new lottery is bringing out the best in Tennesseans.

Police in peril

Last week, two Metro police officers were charged with vehicular assault and DUI, respectively, after hitting MTSU student Micah Jones. Sgt. Kim Gooch was allegedly driving down Division Street when she struck Jones. She registered .16 percent on an alcohol breath test (twice the legal limit), while sober police maintain that officer Marsha Brown moved the car before registering .13 percent on an alcohol breath test. In an unrelated event, officer Christy Dedman was killed Monday when a tractor-trailer slammed into her cruiser parked on the shoulder of I-40. Dedman was helping a stranded motorist.

Eddie's exit

Titans running back Eddie George won't agree to the hefty pay cut general manager Floyd Reese wants him to take, so it looks like he's leaving. In the wake of his exit, Nashville will be that much less metrosexual.

Speaking of sexual...

Will attorney Maria Salas finally get her Metro Human Relations Commission reappointment confirmed by the Metro Council? Or will council member Michael Kerstetter and his pack of lightweight legislators continue to block her nomination because she's a lesbian? If the latter, we recommend they carefully inspect their bottled water.

We hear...

Hillwood High School's football coach has reportedly been letting guys in their mid-20s practice against his team, among other possible infractions. But does it go all the way to the principal's office?
