Bill “The Jock” Purcell pushes for Predators

Hizzoner is expected to call for audits, accountability, school walks and prudent budgeting, but we don’t ever recall him getting in on the sports booster act. But Mayor Bill Purcell did this week, holding a press conference to urge fan support for the NHL Nashville Predators, who appear headed to the playoffs. Despite the Predators rallying in their play, ticket sales have been flagging. “The Predators begin the most critical month in their six-year history,” Purcell said. “There is every reason for people to not only come out but to be a part of something special. It’s time to step up and support this team.”

Super chancey Tuesday

The Tennessee Lottery continues to launch new games whose sometimes complicated rules and options for play tend to elude most of us at the Scene. Monday was the first opportunity for Tennesseans to get in on the Cash 3 game, in which they could pick three single-digit numbers, and on Tuesday, lottery officials launched Cash Blues and Tic Tac Toe games. For rule explanations, look on the back of your ticket or ask the least educated person you can find.

Put that arm on ice

Former UT superstar Peyton Manning has made a $99 million, seven-year deal with his NFL franchise, the Indianapolis Colts, that includes a $34 million signing bonus. That should buy a lot of TD passes. Closer to home, Titans wide receiver Drew Bennett has signed a three-year, $6 million contract. He says he’s going to start buying his dog some better food.
