The state legislature is debating whether to ban elephants from performing at circuses in Tennessee. Circus operators say that if the measure passes, they will likely avoid the state altogether.
May the roadbuilders rest in peace
It’s official: Phil Bredesen has defeated the roadbuilders. He thus becomes the first public official in history to go up against one of the smarmier coalitions in the state and whip up on ’em. In a Tennessean piece this week, numerous legislators acknowledged that it looks as if they’ll go along with the governor’s call to reduce the budget of the Tennessee Department of Transportation by nearly 10 percent. It is expected that cuts to the state’s road fund will be continued in future years. We say bravo.
Eddie Fogler for new Vandy hoops coach?

At least one name thrown into the mix is that of Eddie Fogler, the former South Carolina hoops coach who also served a successful span at Vanderbilt from 1990 to 1993. It’s a brilliant idea.
