It’s easy to take great entertainers for granted when they’re local. So to give you some idea how awesome The Doyle and Debbie Show is, consider this: The country-music-parodying duo — played by Bruce Arntson and Jenny Littleton — have been performing a steady gig in Chicago, where they’re nominated for three Jeff Awards (The Windy City’s equivalent of the Tonys): for best midsize musical as well as best actor and actress in a musical. And what better time to check them out than at this benefit for the Nashville Opera, which is upping the ante this year with David Lang’s groundbreaking chamber opera The Difficulty of Crossing a Field, based on an Ambrose Bierce short story. “Think Gone With the Wind meets Twilight Zone,” says the opera company’s website — which is enough to pique our interest.
