One of our favorite things about this recurring urban music showcase is that every time their emails pop up in our inbox, we're guaranteed to find a new, exciting artist that we probably would have missed otherwise. This week's e-mail hipped us to Mario Moore, an Antioch native who proves our theory that the oft-dismissed neighborhood is becoming the city's hottest talent incubator. Teaming up with Southern Entertainment Awards' Producer of the Year, Coop—also headquartered in Antioch—Moore has created tight, modern Southern rap that would be totally radio-ready if radio wasn't completely preoccupied with the shopping aspirations of 12-year-old girls. Lyrically, Moore rolls hard but has a level of insight and emotional depth that separates him from the two-dimensional gangsta pack. Moore is joined by two of our favorite R&B songstresses, Lo Carter and April Rucker.
