Nashville Dancin' feat. The Apache Relay, Promised Land Sound, Steelism & ELEL

When: Thu., July 3, 6 p.m. 2014
Nashville’s long-running series of free summer shows continues with a quartet of Nashville bands that specialize in amalgams of pop, soul, rock and folk. On their new self-titled full-length, The Apache Relay layers acoustic and electric guitars on such tunes as “Katie Queen of Tennessee,” and their folk-rock suggests a fusion of Americana and The Shins. Applying a post-punk spin to their early-’70s rock pastiches, Promised Land Sound comes across like the grandchildren of the Teenage Head and Flamingo-era Flamin’ Groovies. Meanwhile, Steelism — a duo composed of guitarist Jeremy Fetzer and steel guitarist Spencer Cullum Jr. — fills the gap left by legendary ’70s Nashville band Area Code 615. Known for their expert backing of such esteemed Nashville singers as Caitlin Rose and Jonny Fritz, Steelism fuses country and R&B. Rounding out the program is ELEL, whose pop-rock confections are frisky and unclassifiable. EDD HURT
