Hit songwriter Randy VanWarmer on life-support

Randy VanWarmer, a fixture of Nashville’s singer-songwriter community, is in a coma in Seattle after his body apparently rejected a bone marrow transplant. Diagnosed with leukemia and treated earlier this year at Vanderbilt, VanWarmer suffered a relapse three months ago. A donor was located near Seattle, but after what appeared to be a successful transplant, VanWarmer stopped breathing and was put on a respirator, according to his wife, Suzie. She’s asked that the couple’s temporary Seattle address be published for well-wishers, adding that they can use all the prayers they can get. A friend to many and something of a regular at the Bluebird, VanWarmer is best known for his hit “Just When I Needed You Most” and for writing Alabama’s “I’m in a Hurry (And Don’t Know Why).” Cards and letters may be sent to the VanWarmers at The Summit at Lake Union, 1735 Dexter Ave. N., Apt. A-305, Seattle, WA 98109.
