More About This Series

This week’s installment is the first in a comprehensive five-part series. Here, the Scene examines the history of The Tennessean. We explore changes in its culture, ownership, and style. We also examine how its outlook on the city has changed. This week as well, we have asked a number of community leaders to tell us what they think of today’s paper.

The series will continue over the succeeding four weeks. Meanwhile, if you are interested in chiming in about what you think of The Tennessean—or about what you think of this series—you are welcome to join in a forum on the Scene’s Web site.

Our Web site address is, and the forum is titled “Grading the Daily.” If you have any problems, e-mail, and we will respond.
