Millionaire Magicians at Springwater

Who Wants to be a...?
Local quintet Millionaire Magicians are either the best-kept secret in town, or just downright underrated. With 20 jangly gems spanning a mere 50 minutes, their self-titled debut is a treasure trove of meat and potatoes pop rock on arrival. If you’ve ever wondered what it might have sounded like had Elliott Smith sung on a track or two (or 20) with Guided by Voices, this is the band for you. And if this were 1995, Millionaire Magicians and GBV could easily have been fighting for the same real estate. Steeped in the tradition of great American rock bands from Cheap Trick to R.E.M., both bands have a knack for good hooks and a penchant for power, pop and jangle with an off-kilter, literate edge. Also appearing are experimental folk purveyors Altered Statesmen.
