Million Sellers Record Release
Of all the myriad forms of revivalism rockers are given to, modern attempts at rockabilly strike me as being among the most misguided efforts to resuscitate the past. The unmentionable Stray Cats remain unmentioned — my tastes incline more toward Tav Falco's Panther Burns or the rockabilly side of X circa Wild Gift. The Nashville trio Million Sellers, on the other hand, play rockabilly and make no bones about their love for old music. But, as their new full-length Music City USA and Other Ghost Stories demonstrates, rockabilly and the early ’60s rock 'n' roll forms that singer-songwriter Kels Koch favors are mere jumping-off points for songs that include bits of forgotten American history — the Music City USA track "The Horse-Driven Ambulance" is unclassifiable. Cut partly at Nashville's storied RCA Studio B, the record stands as one of the great semi-decipherable rock statements in recent memory.
