Mike Farris at Station Inn

This snake-hipped Southern soul-rocker may have found religion, but he hasn’t forgotten the lustful grind of the street or the cleansing thrill of a backbeat and a gospel-styled call and response. The former frontman of the blue-collar jam band Screamin’ Cheetah Wheelies, Farris pulled himself out of addiction by grasping to a renewed commitment to Christianity. His recent award-winning solo album, Salvation in Lights, proves that Farris is as inspired by holiness as the Stones once were by wickedness—only the gospel choruses fit his lyrics more faithfully. Just back from a tour that drew raves in such sin cities as San Francisco and Austin, Farris revives his guest-star-studded Sunday Night Shout concert series for a six-show run that extends through November.
