Mike Farris at Grimey's

Make Me Wanna Shout

Make Me Wanna Shout
Ever since Farris rehabbed his career (and his life) and put out his gospel-soul album Salvation In Lights a couple years back, he's been popping up all over the place: Marty Stuart's Late Night Jam, the Americana Music Association awards (he won "New Emerging Artist of the Year"), Sunday night residences at the Station Inn, Bonnaroo. It's no small feat to keep show-goers in this town coming back. But Farris' new live album Shout! Live (taken from a bunch of those Station Inn shows) reveals his secret: He breathes fire. Not literally, of course. With the Rosedale Rhythm Revue behind him--a hot, New Orleans-influenced horn band, featuring the McCrary Sisters--Farris takes to joyous, all-out gospel shouting. And you can't find that kind of spark just anywhere.
