Micah Schabel w/Joey Kneiser and Kelly Smith & Todd Farrell Jr.

When: Fri., Aug. 1, 7 p.m. 2014
Price: $5
With The Replacements shambling together for festival dates this summer, you may be thinking there’s little point in seeing any other heartland punk act — but spin a few tunes by Micah Schnabel, the high-voiced, bespectacled third of Ohio cowpunkers Two Cow Garage, and you might have second thoughts. A belief in the seismic power of rock ’n’ roll has kept Schnabel in a van these past 13 years, and it shows through the grit in his voice and the wear and tear on the characters he sings about in his raucous, literate narrative tunes. He’s bringing a batch of new songs and friend Vanessa Jean Speckman, who’s touring a collection of DIY-music-themed art. Watch the time and don’t be late: Joey Kneiser and Kelly Smith of local rock ’n’ roll storytellers supreme Glossary, and troubadour Todd Farrell Jr. — a guy astute enough to make a solo acoustic Iron Maiden cover interesting — open the show.
