Meghan McCain Signing and Discussion

When: Tue., Sept. 14, 7 p.m. 2010
Price: free
Speaking at a Log Cabin Republican convention last year, Meghan McCain observed, “Most of the old school Republicans are scared shitless of [the] future.” McCain is the rare Republican pundit who often gets more respect from the left than the right, and it’s easy to see why. Through her fearless, pop-culture-savvy public persona, she offers the party constructive criticism that it doesn’t want, violates taboos against criticizing party leaders like Karl Rove, and inspires the sort of conservative unease reserved for any young women more interested in partying and self-promotion than settling down with a husband and babies. One reviewer complains, “This chick is just a Liberal trying to destroy the Republican party.” Dirty Sexy Politics should be of interest to anyone who thinks the Republican party is doing a fine job of destroying itself — or wants to hear McCain’s take on music, fashion and pop culture.
