Mark this one down as another entry in the only-in-Nashville column. In case you didn’t know it, prodigiously gifted young singer-songwriter-guitarist McCormick, whose Honest Words has drawn rave reviews, was one of the first hires for award-winning bassist Missy Raines’ sui generis band The New Hip. It was a musical marriage made in heaven while it lasted, and the former’s departure a couple of years ago simply doubled the amount of available great music. But while both women — as well as current New Hip mandolinist/guitarist Ethan Ballinger, who’s also along for tonight’s ride — are as musically adventurous and cutting-edge as anyone could want, they also harbor a fondness for old country songs, Western swing classics and a lot more straightforward stuff, too. Fortunately, there’s a great venue that will let them scratch that itch. “Just fun stuff,” Raines promises, and it would take a lunatic to doubt it.
