Mattie Groves is the sort of band that doesnt play shows too often. In fact, its been a couple of years since theyve done one, and the most recent was billed as their swan song. But musicians have been known to change their minds about these things. Singer and songwriter Nick Giaconia decided to give it another go, which is no small thing for him. A few years ago, surgery left one of his vocal chords intermittently paralyzed, and, as he puts it, that gives the question of him singing an element of uncertainty. So the times when he does sing are special. Rounding out this straight-ahead roots-rock band are a trio of top-notch guitaristsDave Perkins (who produced an album for Giaconia a decade back), Vince Gill and Jimmy Abeggalong with drummer Billy Thomas and keyboardist Pete Wasner from Gills band. If the last show is any indication, itll be a loose and celebratory affair.
