Marla Faith and R. Lafayette Mitchell at Metro Arts Gallery

Nashville's Metro Office Building may be a little off the beaten path, but for those of you who've voted or registered your car at the Howard School Building on Second Avenue South, it's right next door. On the fourth floor you'll find the Metro Arts Gallery, currently showing works by Marla Faith and R. Lafayette Mitchell. As her name suggests, Faith makes paintings and collages with mystical and spiritual overtones. Her current portraits utilize rich, earthy colors to highlight the connections between women and nature, while her collages examine both the natural and hidden world from a more abstract perspective. R. Lafayette Mitchell works in the futurist style, creating dramatic oil paintings that highlight a sense of movement and energy while exploring scenes of human expression that feature musicians, acrobats, jugglers and more. Many of the works in this show are large-scale, which should serve to heighten their dramatic impact.
Mondays-Fridays. Starts: Nov. 20. Continues through March 6, 2008
