Mark Cabus 2008 performance of his one-man tour de force in A Christmas Carol was supposed to be his last. But like a good stand-up comic on his never-ending farewell tour, Cabus has returned, once more astounding theater audiences with a solo rendering of the Dickens classic that brings to life nearly 40 characters in masterful fashion. Capturing the brooding nature of the Scrooge story and the grittiness of 19th century London, Cabus eschews the razzleberry dressing approach to the popular holiday tale, instead focusing on its ghostly aspects and the dark heart of its leading figure, thus assuring that his spiritual triumph is even harder earned. Expect minimal sets and costumes and maximum emoting. For those whove never caught Cabus seasonal act, this is a fine way to head toward Christmas Day.
