Love-Hate Mail

Letters from readers.
F(Air) McNair Liz, “Ticked at the Titans” (May 4) was a great article. I agree with every point you made and I’m glad you see the kind of greedy man Bud Adams is. The one comment I would like to add is that even though Bud Adams is all about the money, he did bring the Titans and Steve McNair to Tennessee. Without Adams, Nashvillians would never have grown to respect and admire McNair. I, and my husband, will always miss Steve McNair and follow his career, even if he is a Baltimore Raven! HEATHER RIDLEY lucy0024@aol.com (Nashville) Hey DJ Your article on the recently released CD of John Corbett (“Moonlighting on Music Row,” May 4) failed to mention that Corbett first hit big-time television as Chris, the morning DJ on Northern Exposure. That’s where I first related to him—often quoting poets and truly in touch with his inner self. Maybe he is still finding himself with his country CD, but as a fellow native West Virginian, sometimes it takes a while to shake off the coal dust. I’ll probably have to make a purchase, just to support the cause. JOAN G. HILL johill@usw.org (Murfreesboro) On the overlay Kudos to Patrick Merkel for his straightforward, informative and factual letter to the editor (“Overstatement on the Overlay,” May 4). Would it be too much to ask for the Scene to provide readers with this kind of information instead of the repeated spin and innuendo that we have been getting regarding the conservation overlay issue? Until then, maybe you should consider renaming your whole paper The Fabricator. LISA DORDAL lisa.a.dordal@vanderbilt.edu (Nashville) Over the overlay I have lived in Sylvan Park most of my life, which is a long time. My grandfather bought the house I live in in 1944 and it has been in my family ever since. Sylvan Park used to be a friendly neighborhood community, but has lately turned into a gossipy and ill-mannered neighborhood. This is due a lot to the dispute about the overlay. People who wanted it will not speak to or be friendly to those who opposed it. I feel that our community has been divided by Summers, Merkel and the rest who are fighting a lost cause. We won, it’s over, so please give up and stop the madness. VIVIAN COTHRAN angie7439@cs.com (Nashville) Dumb-dial I enjoyed reading your coverage of the local primary races for 2006 (City Limits, April 27)—although I was surprised not to see any endorsements; perhaps the Scene is not a Democrat? One thing I don’t recall seeing in your print edition, however, was my phone number, which many candidates used nonetheless. There seem to be a number of faux technocrats who have gotten the federal Do Not Call registry confused with my personal Do Not Vote For Me registry. And none of them even used Morgan Freeman! Call me old-fashioned, but here’s to hoping for fewer truncated voicemails in August. FREDDIE O’CONNELL tfo@liberadio.com (Nashville)
