Look What I Did w/Worker & Blues Mother

When: Fri., Jan. 20, 9 p.m. 2012
Price: $5
Considering how sexually frank pop music has gotten of late (think Rihanna), it’s only appropriate that some savvy, record-collecting local rockers would put on a show that pays tribute to influential blues divas and their blue streaks. The brainchild of Lauren Gilbert — frontwoman of metal-edged blues-grime trio Thelma & The Sleaze — Blues Mother also features Steve Poulton, purveyor of deconstructed soul with Altered Statesman, and Tiffany Minton, keeper of punkish backbeats for Heavy Cream. They’ll be covering the likes of bawdy pre-war blueswomen Ma Rainey and Lucille Bogan and the late Chicago blues shouter Koko Taylor, all of whose material will still sound anything but tame to modern music-saturated ears.
