Not to be confused with the long-defunct Lopan from Murfreesboro, this hyphenated version of the Kurt Russell hat-tip hails from Columbus, Ohio. While the most recent entrants to the country's highly saturated stoner metal scenes often strive for the thickness and meanest sound possible, Lo-Pan place greater emphasis on the classic rock influence, eschewing the harsher vocals of many of their contemporaries for a sound more akin to Josh Homme's Kyuss/Queens of the Stone Age canon. But in a genre where distinction is difficult, Lo-Pan don't offer surprises, and some of the riffs are well-worn. Be that as it may, the familiarity is still reliable. Opening are locals Across Tundras—one of the city's least heard but best exports.
