In the ’90s, Jakob Dylan and The Wallflowers made modernized folk-rock that drew upon Dylan’s regal musical pedigree and his way with the modernized folk-rock narrative. They hit with the 1995 album Bringing Down the Horse and continued to record for the remainder of the decade — their 2000 Breach documents how their sound matured. After a hiatus, the band got back together to record a new full-length earlier this year in Nashville at Dan Auerbach’s studio. Set for release next month, Glad All Over sports an exemplary rock ’n’ roll-referential title, and if you’ve heard the first track to be released from the record — a rock-reggae number titled “Reboot the Mission,” featuring Clash guitarist Mick Jones — you may think the band has beefed up their sound. Also appearing: the California folk-rock band Delta Spirit, doing a less glamorous take on the music Bob Dylan helped to invent.
