If our new mayor hasn’t done much else in his first month and a half, he has proven himself adept at saying exactly what everyone wants to hear. Here are some actual utterances by Bill Purcell, plus some others we’re expecting to hear any day now (♦♦ denotes actual).

♦ I believe, in my view, we need to know the full extent of what occurred in order to better address it.♦♦— Nov. 8

♦ You know what I care about. It’s what you care about.♦♦ — Campaign commercial

♦ This is what I said I was going to do, and now this is what I’m doing.♦♦— Oct. 8

♦ There’s a desire by all involved to get to the bottom of this as quickly as possible.♦♦ — Nov. 8

♦ Collaboration between departments has got to happen in a city our size.♦♦ — Oct. 8

♦ The business of schools and the participation in schools has to continue throughout the course of this year and the years ahead.♦♦ — Oct. 14

♦ Education is so important to all that I care about and, I think, to the future of this city. ♦♦ — Oct. 14

♦ We need to let the process work.♦♦ — Nov. 8

♦ I do think it’s the job of mayor to establish, again, those high expectations not only that he has but that you have for the way in which your government should operate. ♦♦ — Oct. 14

♦ Neighborhoods are, in the very best sense, where we live.

♦ Children, I truly believe, are our future.

♦ Transportation is a vital issue. It is how we can get from point A to B. And sometimes C.
