It’s a Pokemon world! The craze that’s sweeping the nation is coming to the Hickory Hollow Mall. Nintendo will sponsor an open tournament for kids ages 7 to 14 the weekend of Oct. 2 at the mall. For parents who don’t understand Pokemon, fear not! Nintendo has supplied rules to make the game clear and simple:

How to “Battle”

♦ Select Pokemon based on the opponent’s type of Pokemon; e.g., a duel between Bulbasaur and Charmander would have Charmander victorious because Fire beats Grass.

♦ Pokemon must use a “counter” attack type over the opponent’s Pokemon; e.g. Squirtle would attack with Bubble to get the Water-over-Fire advantage when dueling Charmander.

♦ “Fire-Grass-Water” is one of many patterns in Pokemon, including “Electric-Water-Ground” and “Ice-Ground-Fire.” Combat charts will be provided!

General Tourney Information

♦ Players must select six Pokemon to show their opponents before choosing three to enter into competition.

♦ No two of the same Pokemon characters may be used.

♦ Players are not allowed to use any Pokemon that has been altered or boosted by any game-enhancing devices.
