Elderly Nashvillians have been warned about two men posing as police officers. In what Metro Police have dubbed the “bank examiner’s scam,” the perpetrators call potential victims claiming they suspect the money in their bank accounts is counterfeit, then request that a large sum be withdrawn so that the “officers” may check the money. Afterward, the con artists meet the victim to pick up the cash. Other ongoing local scams to look out for:

Skoal Bandit—Begins when man at bar challenges patron to spitting contest. After losing a couple of rounds, the man says, “Want to put some money on that?”

Go to Dell—High-ranking city official invites major corporation to set up business locally, playing down indirect costs to the public.

Chicken Coup—Occurs downtown primarily. A young girl with a chicken in her arms approaches a female pedestrian and asks her to hold the fowl for a minute, then snatches purse.

Fill Adelphia—A pair of attractive cheerleaders in Titans’ shirts go door to door offering to sell counterfeit PSLs.

Dew Drop on You—Occurs in numerous restaurants. Servers claim that refills are in fact limited, then pocket the cash.

Pizza Deliverance—Pizza delivery boy shows up at home, claiming to have been robbed. Asks if he can use victim’s phone, gains access to victim’s house.
