Heres a double feature youre not likely to see repeated again in Nashville in this lifetime. In honor of the Frists ongoing Twilight Visions: Surrealism, Photography and Paris, Vanderbilts International Lens series presents a pair of Parisian gems from the year 1930. First up is Luis Bunuel and Salvador Dalis scandalous collaboration, whose premiere famously incited a fascist mob to attack the other patrons and smash the Surrealist works on display in the lobby. (Ah, those were the days.) Next is Rene Clairs lovely early sound musical, of which we cant better Luc Santes description in his Criterion DVD liner notes: a sprightly little confection poised just to the right of The Threepenny Opera and a bit to the left of 42nd Street. Paul Young, Vanderbilt director of film studies, will introduce the films; the screening is free and open to the public.
