Yes, if there’s to be a new mounting of Beauty and the Beast, let us thank Nashville Children’s Theatre for making an end-run around Disney and presenting an intriguing adaptation of the classic French story. NCT artistic director Scot Copeland has created a reworking of the fairy tale by Jeanne-Marie Le Prince de Beaumont, and his script aims for heartfelt dramatic truth inside the exotic palace where a mysterious beast, imprisoned by his own demons, receives kindness and love from a merchant’s selfless daughter. Copeland’s promising cast stars Marin Miller and Eric D. Pasto-Crosby, with support from Chip Arnold, Peter Vann, Cori Anne Laemmel and Jamie Farmer. The underscoring is composed by Paul Carrol Binkley. The play is recommended for ages 7 and older.
