When Nashville Opera Association isn’t mounting the classics, the company sometimes mounts a good party instead. The month of January is filled with such celebration, and all roads lead to the big black-tie dinner La Bella Notte: Viva Venezia! later this month at the downtown Hilton Hotel. Honoring important people and raising funds for NOA’s touring and young artist programs are noble goals, and they’re often achieved while paired with gourmet food and wine. But for those with more modest inclinations who want to partake of the opera’s festivities, NOA provides this accessibly priced kick-off event that includes a tasting of wines from Italy’s Veneto region, a selection of hors d’oeuvres, and an opportunity to preview several “La Bella Notte” silent auction items. The highlight of the evening will be a performance of popular arias by soprano Mary Scheib and mezzo-soprano Heidi Herzog. Tickets are available for $50 per person online at nashvilleopera.org, labellanotte.org, or by calling Nashville Opera at 832-5242. And while you’re at it, feel free to inquire about the other upcoming opera events.
