The idea was born, in part, from letting a group of Nashville teens write our “Kids” section of the Best of Nashville this past April. With the help of editorial internand high school seniorCatherine Carroll, a gifted writer herself, a staff of local kids was assembled and then turned loose to expound on the best that Nashville has to offer kids in a variety of categories. Their work was so fresh that, with the continued assistance of Ms. Carroll, we grew our staff to take on the challenge of writing a whole issue. The kids rose to it brilliantly.
This year’s Kids’ Scene was conceived and authored by local Nashville teens. Read it, regardless of your age. It’s an opportunity to learn what kids are interested in, where they go, what they read, what they listen to, and what they think about. As Elise Tyler writes, “At an age where you feel boundless, you also feel the most restricted.” More than anything else, Kids’ Scene is a chance to read some very talented young writers as they offer unique perspectives on this city and themselves.
