Because he did two Robert Johnson songs on his 1994 debut, has played him in films and documentaries and frequently includes covers of Johnson tunes in concert, some inaccurately label Keb Mo' a revivalist and vintage tunesmith. But like Taj Mahal, Keb Mo has a foot in many musical camps, and hes just as superb an interpreter of urban blues, soul and even reggae as he is of the laments and story songs of the Mississippi Delta. A multiple Grammy winner who got his start playing bass and steel drums in a calypso band, Mo's taken trips down many musical paths over the years, though he's first and foremost a wonderful blues singer and songwriter. He's also a first-rate pianist, guitarist, drummer and entertainer, and his acting ventures have included everything from Touched by an Angel and The West Wing to a spirited appearance in John Sayles blues showcase Honeydripper. His latest album blends powerhouse live tunes with four new studio pieces, and Mo's live show is always diverse and explosive.
