Do you understand medical bills, health insurance coverage, HMOs, PPOs and all the other mysteries associated with your healthcare? Of course not. Nobody does. But Westview of Nashville has published My Healthcare Is Killing Me, an immensely useful book explaining all these matters and a lot more. Written by three accomplished Nashvillians, Christopher Parks, Katrina Welty and Robert Hendrick, the book is short, easy to digest and accessible to the layperson. However, it is also comprehensive and accurate, containing actual examples of medical bills, EOBs ("explanations" of benefits) and all the paperwork that assails your mailbox after you have encountered the healthcare system. Although the authors disavow political motives, the overriding implication of the book is that the American healthcare system is poorly organized, terribly wasteful and over-priced.
