Just Plain Folks Music Awards at Wildhorse

Folks Wagon

Folks Wagon
It's billed as “the world's largest grassroots music organization,” and with 51,500 members—songwriters, recording artists and music industry types—Just Plain Folks Music Organization makes a strong case. In addition to providing a conduit for networking, sharing ideas and maximizing the power of the Internet, Just Plain Folks presents this biennial awards show to recognize achievements among its membership. Screening “more than 350,000 songs and over 25,000 albums in 70+ genres from 100 countries”—better them than us!—the organization leaves the voting to a volunteer panel of professionals, peers and plain-old fans to offer a more democratic alternative to other major awards shows. The categories are nearly as endless as the membership rolls: A Cappella, African, Alternative, Ambient, Americana, Asian...and that's just the “A”s. (Had we known about this earlier, we would have submitted JEFF the Brotherhood in the “Self Help” category and Chris Crofton in “Storytelling: Child.”) Tickets are $55; see jpfolks.com for details.
