John Parker and Ray Walker at Davis-Kidd

Be Thou My Vision

Be Thou My Vision
Even if you’re not a churchgoer, it’s hard to deny the power of a good hymn. In Abide With Me: A Photographic Journey Through the Great British Hymns, David Lipscomb professor John Parker describes in vivid detail the circumstances surrounding the composition of some of Christianity’s greatest hits, including “Rock of Ages” and “Amazing Grace.” Accompanying Parker’s text are color photographs by Paul Seawright, chair of the Department of Photography at the University of Ulster, which depict the pastoral settings in England and Wales where the hymns were composed. Included with the book is a CD of the hymns produced by Ray Walker, one-fourth of the famous Jordanaires singing group that backed Elvis Presley and many others. John Parker and Ray Walker discuss and sign Abide With Me.
