Even if youre not a churchgoer, its hard to deny the power of a good hymn. In Abide With Me: A Photographic Journey Through the Great British Hymns, David Lipscomb professor John Parker describes in vivid detail the circumstances surrounding the composition of some of Christianitys greatest hits, including Rock of Ages and Amazing Grace. Accompanying Parkers text are color photographs by Paul Seawright, chair of the Department of Photography at the University of Ulster, which depict the pastoral settings in England and Wales where the hymns were composed. Included with the book is a CD of the hymns produced by Ray Walker, one-fourth of the famous Jordanaires singing group that backed Elvis Presley and many others. John Parker and Ray Walker discuss and sign Abide With Me.
