Here’s a shocking revelation for you: A dude in his 20s who writes for an alternative weekly newspaper likes The Daily Show! I know, right? Frankly, with primary season lurching toward an inevitable Romney or Gingrich conclusion, the only way to avoid spiraling into despair over our political system and Gingrich’s insistence on having an open marriage with America is with jokes — preferably ones about Googling Rick Santorum. John Oliver rises to the occasion admirably, not only as The Daily Show’s senior British correspondent, but as one half of the utterly brilliant weekly podcast The Bugle. Oliver is consistently hilarious, lampooning everything from his precarious green card situation to “spectacular crook” Silvio Berlusconi. But, realistically, any person who can coin the phrase “fuckeulogy” in describing the death of Osama Bin Laden is a person that you should happily give all of your money to.
