For those of you who weren’t fortunate enough to catch John Fogerty’s no-holds-barred surprise AMA show at the Mercy Lounge in September, here is your chance to rectify the situation. While it may not beat the awe-inspiring intimacy of catching the legendary Creedence frontman in a 500-capacity club, seeing him in the Mother Church is easily a close second. In light of his newest release The Blue Ridge Rangers Rides Again—a collection featuring his rollicking interpretations of country and rockabilly classics—The Ryman is a fitting place to hear him sing the likes of The Everly Brothers’ “When Will I Be Loved,” John Prine’s “Paradise” and Ricky Nelson’s “Garden Party,” interspersed with an endless slew of CCR classics. His outstanding back-up band includes virtuosos such as legendary session drummer Kenny Aronoff and savant fiddle-player Jason Mowery, and at 64 Fogerty is spry as ever and his voice has aged like wine. For any fan of his work—new or old—there is simply no good excuse for missing him while he’s in such fine form.
