Jeff Tweedy w/The Handsome Family

When: Tue., June 24, 7:30 p.m. 2014
Price: $32.50-$45
Ask most teenagers about their dream vacation, and spending the summer traveling cross-country with Dad isn’t likely to rank high on the list. Spencer Tweedy, Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy’s 18-year-old son, might give you a different answer. All summer long, Spencer will be keeping time for the superb band that’s touring in support of his papa’s forthcoming solo record (titled Sukierae), on which the young man also drums. “I’ll Sing It,” a recent sneak preview track from the album, shows the elder Tweedy picking up about where he and Wilco left off with 2011’s The Whole Love, combining spare folk sounds with a little weirdness and some good old-fashioned rock ’n’ roll. The band, which also includes bassist Darin Gray, guitarist Jim Elkington, and keyboardist Liam Cunningham, will play a set featuring the new songs. Jeff Tweedy will also do a set of Wilco and Uncle Tupelo tunes solo acoustic, which will be delightful whether or not he reprises his unamplified performance of “Acuff-Rose” from Wilco’s 2006 visit to the Mother Church. Desert-dappled husband-and-wife duo Rennie and Brett Sparks, better known as The Handsome Family — and known better still as the folks who wrote and performed “Far From Any Road,” the title song from True Detective — open the show.
